MSWA & Tyrant

The Maryland State Wrestling Association (MSWA) and Tyrant Wrestling were proud to announce a new partnership designed to leverage the combined passion, experience, and capabilities of each organization. Starting in 2026, Tyrant Wrestling, recognized nationally for hosting exceptional tournaments, will operate the annual MSWA State Championship tournament, an event expected to attract nearly 1,000 competing wrestlers and thousands of attendees from Maryland and Washington D.C.

Tyrant Wrestling operates some of the largest wrestling tournaments in the world, to include events that have more than 84 mats, and they are headquartered right in our backyard. Moving forward, Tyrant will handle event logistics, including sanctioning, registration, and operations ensuring that we continue to meet the growing needs for this championship event.

 

Cory Frederick, Founder of Tyrant Wrestling, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "We're honored to partner with MSWA and support the vibrant wrestling community in Maryland. Our goal is to create a memorable tournament environment that inspires wrestlers, coaches, and families alike. We know the importance of this tournament in the state and are excited to join forces."

Maryland wrestling has seen remarkable growth, outpacing national trends with a 9% year-over-year increase compared to 7% nationally. The growth in womens' wrestling has been particularly impressive, expanding by 25% year-over-year.

This state, our board, and the MSWA has had incredible leadership and volunteers over the years which created the foundation for this organization. With the entire community’s help and support we will continue to drive Maryland wrestling forward, and now together with Tyrant Wrestling, we're going to bring an improved championship experience for athletes and families to the state next year.
