Team Maryland - Folkstyle Maryland/MSWA sent a team of underclassmen to the Brute Scholastic Showcase in York, PA. The event is a national level tournament contested this year by state all star teams from as far west as Illinois, south to Florida and north to Vermont. In previous years, Maryland had had respectable finishes, coming in as high as 4th last year. This year the squad improved to place 3rd behind Illinois, (2nd) and perrennial champions, PA. Along the way, Team Maryland beat Florida, Virginia and Indiana, and finished ahead of powerful state teams from New Jersey, New York and Delaware. Individually the big star was Dematha's Pat Prada, who went 8-0 and took home OW honors for the event. The team was made up of 7 public school wrestler, 6 from private schools and one wrestler who was homeschooled. In addition, these wrestlers were State Champions, Prep All Americans and a Trinity Award winner. One of our wrestlers is ranked nationally. Prada was named USA Wrestling wrestler of the week. |
