Mason Dixon Quad Ranking Rules:
Must be 14 years old and under as of 12/31/2016.
No high school wrestlers.
Weight classes 60 and 65 (birth year 2005 or later only).
The goal is to rank at least the top four to eight in each weight.
These rankings will serve as a basis for the Mason Dixon Quad wrestle-offs. The Mason Dixon Quad wrestle-offs are open to Maryland-ers who meet the requirements. The rankings will be used to seed the wrestle-offs.

These rankings are preliminary and will be updated with verifiable results. MSWA and USAW events are strongly taken into consideration, including previous Mason Dixon Quad participation, MSWA Age-Wt States, MSWA FS/GR States and USAW Nationals.

Please provide feedback on ages, weight classes and recent results. Need particular help with 105 pounds and upper weights. Thanks.

Lucas Ognissanti is going 100 this year. I think his little brother Paul might make the list this year too. He is only 11 but he won a few Novice events, think he is going 100 also.

Are you missing Richard Fedalen from Warhawks or do I not see him? He should probably be #1 at 75. Also, the Aybars and Shapiro appear to be ranked a little low for State Champs. The Ognissanti boys will wrestle off at 100? That will be an interesting dinner table after that happens.

I would have probably waited until after the PRECAWL tournament to release these rankings...I think a lot of the questions raised will be answered after this tournament.

75 Pounds:
1. Jacob Wright, Central MD
2. Matthew Walsh, Carroll County
3. Ethan Bavender, Maniacs
4. Ronald Kratko, Wolfpack
5. Coleman Nogle, B&O
6. Koda DeAtley, Rampage
7. Antonio Rodrigues, Jr., Maniacs
8. Amondre Wooden, Lansdowne

Correct me if I am wrong but I think Rodrigues beat Walsh at Michael Beck Tourney? I want to say it was at a higher weight as well.

80 Pounds:
1. Brady Pruett, Warhawks
2. Garrett Dell, Manchester
3. Joe Couch, MSJ
4. Steven Luedtke, Middle River
5. Nathan Wagner, Parkton
6. Meyer Shapiro, Warhawks
7. John Reho, Navy Jr.
8. Joel Brown, Wolfpack

You may as well remove Shapiro if he is going to be listed at 6... Joel Brown had some big wins at Michael Beck over Gills and Rodrigues I believe?

Rodrigues beat Walsh twice at Mike Beck at 80lb. Joel Brown beat Rodrigues 1-0. I still can't imagine anyone in MD beating Shapiro, soooooooo.

At 60, Andre Younger (Wolfpack) beat #2 Grove (2-0), #3 Halling (9-1), and #4 Ambrose (Fall) over the past couple weekends. Kid's a monster.

Exactly... that's why I would say remove him completely. It's insulting to have him at 6th IMO.

I'm bias because my son is his training partner but still.

All,

Here is my take for what its worth. I think that the results are from MSWA states back in Feb 2016. So not sure all those other matches were considered.

I cannot make this stuff up!

First and foremost Brown lives in North Carolina. With all due respect Brown lost that match. With the assistance of the referee tripping Gills it appears on paper that Gills lost to Brown. Yes, the referee literally stepped and impeded the motion of Gills circling away from Brown and tripped Gills. That my friend is the ONLY reason Brown won that match on paper.

Gills scored in an easy escape in OT with 15 seconds left and the rookie official blew the whistle suggesting Gills won. Then the rookie official realized that the overtime period should have been completed and then the official restarted them center. Gills then circled and circled and the referee literally stepped and obstructed Gills' motion actually tripping him to the ground which cost Gills the match.

Seeing is believing I witnessed it with my own eyes and have it on video. Anybody else who witnessed that match cannot deny it. Brown was losing before Gills was tripped by the official, most strange scenario I had seen in a long while at the youth level. ...

Another thing to consider is that Gills gives up 2+ years in that match. Gills at 12 years old vs. Gills at 10 years old.....NO CONTEST!

I will also add that about 4 weeks ago I offered to do these rankings. You really have to laugh at these chewed up rankings. Clearly our State Administration does not know the youth wrestlers. Not talking bad, just stating facts! Dennis Gills

Totally Disagree with the rankings. Noah Reho Beat Dell, Couch, Luedtke, And im sure wagner who went 0-4 in states. I was upset with the rankings but I figured the formula. You took top 4 placers in mswa starting at 14u bumped them 5 lbs. rankings 1-4. 12u bump 5 lbs 5-8. I find this extremely insulting to our kids time and hard work to just throw rankings up like this. John Reho

You can remove Will Vaxmonsky from 105, he will start wrestling high school this year.

Also, I think you should rank Lucas Ognissanti #1 in the 100# class or at least #2 in the 105# class. Reasoning is the PreCAWL this weekend where Will's most difficult match(outside the loss to Fisk) was against Ognissanti with a reversal in 3rd period to win and Ognissanti's loss to the winner Gray was his most difficult match....and that was at 105#. At 100# he would be #1 or #2.

Did you see what NaSir Wilkinson did to Paul Ognissanti in the 100lb finals? It wasn't even as close as the 13-5 score suggests (believe all 5 pts were Wilkinson letting him up). No offense, but Lucas is #2 at 100. Unless Wilkinson decides he wants to go 95 (he was only 96 at PreCAWL).

Fair point but Paul O is not Lucas O ad I think Paul is 11 yo. Didn't see the match, but Lucas v NaSir might be a good one to see. I did write that Lucas should be 1 or 2, not knowing NaSir.

I hear ya. Was hoping to see NaSir / Lucas on Sunday, too. I'm sure it would be a great one. Assume if he was 96, NaSir will go to 95 normally, so Lucas will probably end up being #1 at 100 anyway.

Well I think Paul did pretty good for an eleven year old. Nasir is a great take down wrestler but he couldn't pin or TF an eleven year old with his ground game. How old is Nasir now- 14 or 15? They both tried their best. Try to look for the good in competitors not the bad- nameless fellow!

Not sure I said anything "bad" about anyone, and I certainly meant no offense. You'd probably have to get on a plane to find another 11 year old who'd last a full period with NaSir. I was just responding to the assertion that NaSir shouldn't be #1 at 100, and used Paul as an example of him beating a really good kid pretty soundly last weekend. Plus, that was the only one of his matches I saw, so the only one I could comment on. Good luck to both of your boys this year. Always rooting for Maryland kids to do well.
